Retain Old Habits

Tom wasn’t too happy with the way his life was going. He heard there was this motivational guru who had helped many improved their lives. So he decided to go look up the guru.

The guru had his office at an unusual place: A dark alley. With some fumbling, Tom finally managed to find it. He opened the door to the office and saw…

Nothing!

The office was totally bare. No chair. No table. Nothing. Not a single piece of furniture.

It was empty. No receptionist. No assistant. Nobody. Not a single soul around except Tom himself.

There were two doors in the office. One marked “Gentlemen,” and the other marked “Ladies.” Cautiously, Tom chose the one written “Gentlemen.”

Once again, there was nothing behind the door except another empty office with two more doors. This time, the door on the left was marked with “Progressive.” “Conservative” was on the right door.

Knowing himself to be conservative, Tom entered the “Conservative” door.

He suspected that he would see another bare office with two doors. And true enough, he saw another two doors marked “Risk A Change” and “Retain Old Habits.”

Tom thought hard. In the end, Tom decided that he couldn’t bear to leave behind his old habits he had become so comfortable with.

Tom closed his eyes before he opened the “Retain Old Habits” door as he had a feeling that this was the last door to decide his fate. He drew a deep breathe, opened the door, took a big step, and opened his eyes…

The dark alley he came in was greeting Tom again.
