Bill, a billionaire, just got himself a new 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom. Naturally, he wanted to find an outstanding chauffeur to drive his new car.
Many of the finest drivers in the world wanted to fill the post as Bill was willing to pay handsomely for the job. After a series of vigorous interviews and tests, his staff finally came up with four candidates for Bill to choose.
Bill gave instructions for the four drivers to see him at his office at the same time. When the four of them came at the appointed time, Bill said to them, “I’m sure you all have superb driving skills or you won’t be here. So, let me ask you this. If you’re to drive my 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom towards a cliff, how near can you get to the edge?”
“Within 2 meters,” the first driver blurted out his answer before the rest could react.
“1 meter, Mr. Bill,” the second driver quickly added his reply. “I can drive the car towards 1 meter of the edge.”
Not to be outdone, the third driver said proudly, “Mr. Bill, I can go half a meter near the edge with no problem.”
“How about you, my young man?” Bill turned to the last driver, a sturdy 30+ man, who had kept quiet.
“If I had a choice, sir,” the young driver started calmly, “I would get as far away as possible from the edge of the cliff.”
Upon hearing the answer, you could immediately see the faces of the other three drivers all turned sneering. If you listened intently, you could even hear the first driver muttering, “Coward.”
So what did Bill do?
Bill smiled, looked straight into the eyes of the young driver, and said, “You’re hired.”
